Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday took another opportunity to attack former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in Rajya Sabha. Calling the Congress leader “anti-reservation”, Prime Minister Modi read out Jawaharlal Nehru's letter in which the former Prime Minister said he strongly opposes anything that leads to inefficiency and second-rate standards.
“…I read out its translation: 'I do not like any kind of reservation, especially in the area of service delivery. I am strongly against anything that leads to inefficiency and second-rate standards…'” PM Modi said while he read the contents of the letter.
“That's why I say they are naturally against it (reservation). If the government had recruited them then and promoted them from time to time, they would have been here today,” the Prime Minister said while attacking the Congress in Rajya Sabha.
This is the second time that Prime Minister Modi has attacked India's first Prime Minister during the budget session of Parliament. Earlier in Lok Sabha, Prime Minister Modi claimed that Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi did not trust the capabilities of Indians and thought they were slow.
“The mindset of the Congress is that it has never trusted the capabilities of the country. It viewed itself as rulers and the public as someone less, someone smaller…” PM Modi said before reading out a statement by then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
“Nehru ji thought Indians are lazy and less intelligent,” PM Modi said. “…If we look at the people in Congress today, it seems that Indira Ji could not judge the people of the country correctly, but could absolutely judge Congress correctly…” he added.
'Congress destroyed BR Ambedkar's ideas': PM Modi
Intensifying his attack on Congress on reservations, Prime Minister Modi accused the grand old party of destroying BR Ambedkar's ideas.
“The Congress and its allies have always struggled to give greater participation to SC/ST and OBC. They left no stone unturned to destroy the ideas of Baba Saheb. There were no preparations to give him Bharat Ratna, when the government was formed with the support of the BJP, Baba Saheb was given Bharat Ratna… For the first time in the country, the NDA Govt appointed an Adivasi daughter as the President of India …,” PM Modi said.
