Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi scrapped inheritance law during his tenure to save the wealth and family property that would be taken by the government after the death of his mother Indira Gandhi.
Addressing an election rally in .na, Prime Minister Modi said, “The facts regarding inheritance tax are revealing. When former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi died, her children would get her property. But there was a rule before that property goes to the children before the elections. Part of it was taken by the government. Congress had made a law about this. To save the property so that it does not go to the government, then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi scrapped the inheritance law for four generations, now they want to loot your wealth.”
The Prime Minister criticized the Karnataka government's decision to include the entire Muslim community in the state under the OBC category and said the opposition party will implement this model across the country.
“The Congress government in Karnataka has declared all people of the Muslim community in Karnataka as OBC. Congress has already added so many new people to the OBC community that earlier OBCs used to get reservations in education and government, but now these reservations they got have been secretly snatched away from them,” Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister said that when the Congress was at the Center in 2011, it had decided to give away part of the OBC reservation on religious grounds.
“On December 19, 2011, a Cabinet note was released stating that a portion of 27 percent OBC should be given to a specific religion. Later, the Andhra Pradesh High Court quashed the Congress' decision. They went to the Supreme Court but they also upheld the decision of Andhra HC. In 2014, they again mentioned in their manifesto that if the reservation has to be made on religious grounds, they will continue with it,” the Prime Minister said.
“Here in Madhya Pradesh, those who benefit from reservations like Yadavs, Khushwahas, Gujjars and other backward classes, all your reservations will go to their favorite vote bank. They want to implement this model across the country,” he added. .
Earlier on Wednesday, the National Commission for Backward Castes criticized the Karnataka government's decision to include the entire Muslim community in the state under the OBC category, saying it is causing 'injustice' to the OBC community.
The NCBC chairman said that a total of 36 castes of the Muslim community are given reservations under two categories of OBC in the state, but despite this, 4 percent of the general reservations are given separately to Muslims in the state.
“While on one hand, all Muslims in the state have been given 4 percent reservation under Category IIB, where they are considered OBC, on the other hand, Muslims are also placed under Category I and Category II(A). Also, the Muslims in the state are also free to contest for the 32 percent seats reserved for the OBCs in the local body elections,” the statement said.
THE NCBC chairman said that despite asking for an explanation on what is the basis of this reservation, they have not received a proper response from the Karnataka government.
