The United States celebrates January 15 as National Strawberry Ice Cream Day every year.
The sweet, chilled, creamy and flavorful ice cream can turn a bad mood into a good one in the blink of an eye. Whether it’s summer or winter, it’s hard to say no to an ice cream. From strawberry to chocolate, everyone has their own favorite flavour. But have you ever thought about celebrating a strawberry ice cream day? Probably not!
However, the United States celebrates January 15 as National Strawberry Ice Cream Day every year. There are many stories behind the invention of fruit ice cream and how they became popular with everyone. One such story dates back to the time of Alexander the Great. It is believed that Alexander was fond of eating snow. He would flavor it with liqueurs and honey and enjoy it. Stories are also told of how Nero Claudius Caesar shot runners into the mountains to collect snow and would use fruit as a seasoning to enjoy the delicacy. This made fruit ice creams famous in the past and has continued to this day. The three most popular ice cream flavors were vanilla, chocolate and strawberry.
Because every day brings an interesting story, National Strawberry Ice Cream Day also has a fascinating story. Strawberry ice cream is believed to be at least two centuries old.
In 1813, former President of the United States, James Madison, threw a lavish party in honor of his second introduction. He served strawberry ice cream to the guests. The ice was frozen using huge blocks of ice that were stored in cellar vaults and insulated with bales of hay. While some historians believe that the celebration marks the beginning of Strawberry Ice Cream Day, others argue that the first National Strawberry Ice Cream Day was celebrated in the United States in 1932.
History has many stories to tell when we dig into it for everything. It’s hard to decide which one to believe. But when it comes to ice cream, one should only focus on celebrating this day. This particular day is clearly a joy to celebrate and the best way to celebrate the day is with freshly prepared strawberry ice cream. The combination of fresh strawberries and juicy ice cream makes a great day more special indeed.
