Three women from Gujarat died in a horrific car accident in the US. Rekhaben Patel, Sangitaben Patel and Manishaben Patel, all residents of Anand district in Gujarat, died when their SUV veered off the road and over a bridge in Greenville County, South Carolina.
According to reports from the Greenville County Coroner's Office, the SUV, which was traveling northbound on I-85, veered across all lanes, went up an embankment and floated at least 20 feet into the air before crashing into trees on the other side of the bridge collided.
“It's clear they were driving in excess of the posted speed limit,” chief coroner Mike Ellis told news station WSPA. He also clarified that no other cars were involved.
The car was found stuck to a tree and broken into several pieces, a testament to the speed at which it collided with the surrounding area.
“Very rarely do you see a vehicle leaving the roadway at such a high speed that it jumps across four to six lanes and ends up in the trees about six meters high,” said Mr Ellis, describing the unprecedented accident.
“At this time it appears the vehicle is on its wheels, but as the vehicle jumped across all four lanes it likely struck trees at least six meters above the ground,” he told local media.
Emergency response teams, including the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Gannt Fire and Rescue and multiple Greenville County EMS units, quickly responded to the scene.
The sole survivor of the accident was reportedly injured and hospitalized, while their condition was uncertain. The vehicle's detection system alerted some family members to the crash, who then alerted local authorities in South Carolina.
