Islamabad:
In a shocking revelation, parents in Pakistan are now protecting their dead daughters from rape by placing padlocks on their graves, the Daily Times reported.
Reports have shown that the number of cases of necrophilia is on the rise in the country.
That a woman is raped every two hours in a country that prides itself on its family-oriented values has been hammered into our collective conscience to the point of repetition. But the heartbreaking sight of padlocks on women’s graves is enough for all of society to hang its head in shame and never dare look at the so-called honorary vessels, according to the Daily Times editorial.
Harris Sultan, an ex-Muslim atheist activist and the author of the book “The Curse of God, why I left Islam,” blamed harsh Islamic ideology for such depraved acts.
“Pakistan has created such a horny, sexually frustrated society that people now put padlocks on their daughters’ graves to prevent them from being raped. If you associate the burqa with rape, it will follow you to the grave.” Sultan tweeted Wednesday. .
This is done as a desperate attempt to ensure the sanctity of dead bodies in case some horny monsters choose them to satisfy their lust. Given the rampant increase in necrophilia, one can’t help but understand the urge to protect loved ones, Daily Times reported.
Another Twitter user, Sajid Yousaf Shah, wrote: “The social environment created by #Pakistan has led to a sexually charged and repressed society, where some people have resorted to closing their daughters’ graves to protect them from sexual violence. Such a connection between rape and an individual’s clothing only leads to a path of sadness and despair.”
Women’s bodies are said to have been exhumed and desecrated on several occasions. In Pakistan, a case of necrophilia was reported in 2011 when a grave keeper named Muhammad Rizwan from North Nazimabad, Karachi was arrested after confessing to raping 48 female corpses.
According to the National Commission for Human Rights, more than 40 percent of Pakistani women have experienced some form of violence at least once in their lives.
Just a few days ago, a scorched body of an 18-year-old believed to have been killed with an ax was found lying near Indus Highway. In Islamabad, sexual assault poster Zahir Jaffer is trying every trick in the playbook to escape his death sentence, the Daily Times reported.
