In China, a woman named Chen fell victim to a deceptive scheme orchestrated by her employer, as reported by the South China Morning Mail. She was hired as a receptionist on November 21 and was initially asked during the interview about her interest in cosmetic surgeries, which seemed standard given the company's specialization in such procedures.
When signing the employment contract, two company employees pressured her to undergo a rhinoplasty, claiming it would improve her career prospects. Despite expressing financial constraints because she had not yet graduated, they increased the pressure, eventually forcing her to take out a 25,000 yuan loan for the cosmetic procedure.
“Everything happened so quickly that I didn't even have a chance to refuse,” she said.
Ultimately, she was persuaded to schedule a consultation at another clinic and then opt for a loan with a repayment period of the next two years.
When she returned to work after surgery, she found a shift in her role from receptionist to consultant. This change was accompanied by frequent criticism from her colleagues.
“The company didn't need a receptionist, and I believe the job offer was a lure to get me to take out a loan for the surgery. After the treatment, they started finding reasons to fire me.”
“They would say I sabotaged potential customers and claim I caused them to lose money,” she said.
The woman filed her papers on December 10 and was paid 690 yuan (Rs 8,115) for her services.
