International Cricket Council (ICC) match referee David Boon has tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss the fourth astest. Australia and England will play at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on January 5. Steve Bernard, a member of the International Panel of ICC Referees, will take over as Match Referee for the fourth Ashes Test match, which begins January 5 at the SCG.
“David Boon is expected to return to the role for the fifth test in Hobart, which begins on January 14. He is asymptomatic and fully vaccinated, including a booster,” the statement from Cricket Australia said.
“Bean will remain in Melbourne and will remain in quarantine for 10 days in accordance with Victorian state health guidelines,” the statement said.
The statement also announced that all players from both teams, their families, England and Australian support staff and match officials have been undergoing daily PCR testing since Monday, December 27.
