A woman who didn’t have a home to live in six years ago is now a multimillionaire after winning a massive $5 million on a Scratchers lottery ticket, the California Lottery announced Wednesday.
After Lucia Forseth of Sacramento bought a fortune in a Walmart Supercenter in Pittsburgh, she walked away with her fortune. When Forseth scratched the winning ticket outside the store, she was filling up the oil in her car.
She expressed her shock and gratitude at winning, saying “I only bought one ticket; I closed my eyes and chose that and it won!” At first I thought I had won a free ticket, but I checked and it said I had won $5 million!”.
“Six years ago I was homeless. This year I’m getting married, getting my associate degree and winning $5 million. You never think you have a chance of winning it. It’s just random. I never thought it would happen to someone like me,” she continued.
“Fast forward to now, and Forseth is one of California’s newest multimillionaires thanks to a Lucky Scratchers ticket,” the California Lottery press release said.
“The California Lottery’s sole mission is to raise additional funds for public education, and that is only possible with the support of our players,” said Carolyn Becker, spokesperson for the California Lottery.
“Hearing a success story like this shows the positive impact our games have on both winners and schools.”
