A court hearing in Brakpan, South Africa, was interrupted when an uninvited guest “caused destruction” during a murder trial. It turned out to be an owl that broke into the room through a hole in the ceiling and sent people “running out screaming.”
The Owl Rescue Center said it was approached by the Brakpan SPCA for assistance in rescuing a barn owl from a magistrate’s court in Brakpan.
“The Brakpan SPCA asked us if we could rescue a barn owl at the magistrate in Brakpan that has been wreaking havoc. Last week, while the court was in session, the owl actually flew in through a hole in the ceiling that sent the magistrate and the whole room full of people running out screaming,” the rescue organization wrote in a Facebook post. They also shared a photo of the rescued owl.

The group said it took time, but rescuers were able to catch the owl and remove it from the building.
“It took a while, but we saved the little guy. While on the roof, we heard that a murder trial was being discussed, with the judge saying that it is almost impossible to solve a Brakpan murder.
The DNA is all the same and there are no dental records,” the message continues
The post has gone viral, with over 1,000 likes and several amused comments.
One user wrote: ”He’s so beautiful. God knows why everyone was screaming. He’s harmless. Thanks for saving him.” Another commented, “I can’t understand why people are so afraid of owls. I can only imagine the scene with people getting turned off during a trial.”
A third said: “My question is why is there a hole in the ceiling of a magistrate’s court? Thank you for saving the beautiful owl.” A fourth added: “I don’t understand why people are so afraid of birds.”
